Our
Story 1
Get to Know Us
Chaton Communication was founded with the vision of promoting Chinese culture and language to a global audience. We are passionate about providing a platform for cultural exchange and understanding. We are committed to curating exceptional resources and events that celebrate the richness of Chinese heritage.
I teach Chinese language courses at a university. Over time, a few of my friends—some are fellow parents I met through my children or friends I practice Tai Chi with—began learning Chinese as well. They all come from different cultural backgrounds and had no prior exposure to the Chinese language. Among them are seniors in their 70s, a business PhD who already speaks nine other languages, and a psychologist who has Chinese-speaking patients. Moved by their genuine interest in Chinese culture and their dedication to learning, I began tutoring them voluntarily. For learners whose first language is not Chinese—and who often have no foundational background—learning Chinese is far from easy. Their perseverance deeply inspired me.

Our
Story 2
Get to Know Us
As a PhD in ancient Chinese literature, I’ve always hoped to find effective ways to teach Chinese to children growing up overseas. However, the teaching materials currently available in the market rarely meet my expectations. That’s why I decided to create my own curriculum and founded a Chinese language Learning Institute. Over the years, I have developed unique experiences and teaching strategies for adults and children learning Chinese as either a second language or a heritage language.
I often send learning materials to students whose native language isn’t Chinese, and one day I thought—why not build a website to share these materials and insights? It would allow more people to benefit from them and also be my way of giving back to those who care about and love Chinese culture.
This website is non-profit. All learning materials and courses are free to use. Because I wanted to structure the content in course format, I needed to purchase a domain and a hosting plan—free platforms couldn’t support it. That is why users are required to register to access the materials which the platform requires but I do not like.
I made a personal commitment to promoting Chinese culture, and that’s why I’ve in this three-year website plan. If this project can support and inspire learners, I will be truly happy.
Our
Story3
Get to Know Us
In one of the courses I teach at the university, we explore Chinese martial arts culture. I am by no means a martial arts expert, but I grew up in an era when almost everyone in my generation was immersed in the world of Jin Yong’s martial arts novels. Martial arts culture has always been a familiar part of my life.
I was truly moved to see so many non-Chinese-speaking international students enrolled in this course, driven purely by their passion and curiosity for martial arts. My own mother, now nearly 90 years old, has been practicing Tai Chi daily for decades. She has never stopped—and even today, she climbs four flights of stairs effortlessly. My emotional connection to Tai Chi runs deep, and it inspired me to begin learning it myself.
Over time, I’ve seen many people with no Chinese cultural background practicing Tai Chi with genuine dedication. Some are over 90 years old. Some have physical disabilities from car accidents, yet they continue to practice without fail—even during the pandemic, many of them exercised independently. Some even went on to teach Tai Chi in local community centers, in English.
Their passion for Chinese culture has deeply touched me.
Yet despite Tai Chi’s tremendous benefits for health and well-being, it is still relatively underappreciated compared to more popular disciplines like yoga or taekwondo. In fact, it is often misunderstood—even by Chinese people themselves. Some see it merely as an activity for the elderly, while the true essence of Tai Chi is often buried under flashy, performance-based modern adaptations.
My mother’s vitality, sustained by decades of Tai Chi; the heartfelt dedication of so many non-Chinese learners; and my own experience teaching martial arts culture—all led me to feel a personal responsibility toward Tai Chi. I felt I owed something to this tradition.
That is why the promotion of Tai Chi culture is also one of the founding purposes of this website.
Our Story 4
In recent years, due to global economic and social shifts, the humanities have been increasingly undervalued. Many universities have cut humanities courses because of budget constraints, and entire programs have been downsized or even eliminated. As a result, a significant number of humanities educators have found themselves out of work.
At the same time, today’s young people—whether in the humanities or in the sciences—are facing growing challenges in finding internships, job opportunities, and meaningful paths forward. It is not an easy time to be a student or a young professional.
If this website can serve as a platform to support these teachers and students—a place where learning, communication, and collaboration can happen—then it will truly have fulfilled a larger purpose.
If you are a high school student, university student, or teacher who is interested in offering educational services—whether in language, music, art, or sports—or if you are someone who is looking for such resources, please feel free to contact us. We are happy to feature service providers on our website and help promote their offerings. If you find clients through the site and receive compensation, you are welcome to make a voluntary donation to help us continue running the platform.
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve purchased a three-year hosting plan for this website. My sincere hope is that, with enough interest and support, it will continue to grow and operate well beyond those three years. Thank you so much for your attention and encouragement. Thank you so much for being part of this journey.
